Editorial Message

Alt

The trajectory of our journal is going upwards in a robust and sustainable manner. The impact factors have increased for both parts of the journal, now being 2.7 for Part A and 2.3 for Part B. Both parts of the journal are ranked in Q2. Part A is ranked 68/183 in Civil Engineering, which relates to 63.1% with an increase from 60.2% in the previous year. Part B is ranked 56/175 in the category of Multidisciplinary Engineering, which relates to 68.3% with an increase from 63.8% in the previous year. The number of submissions, as well as the number of published papers is going up in both parts. In both parts, we are operating with high quality standards, reflected in rejection rate around 65%, comparable to other well-recognized journals in the area. After Part A of the journal is already in SCI, Part B is moving towards SCI, as well. Our citations in Part B have increased by 24% with respect to the previous year, and our impact factor relative to other journals in the field is very close to those journals that are directly ahead of us for moving into Q1. Moving into Q1 would likely bring us into SCI with Part B. In this regard I would like to encourage you to submit top-quality papers to Part B that are likely to attract high citations. Please consider the submission of review papers in your specific research area. Guest Editors of Special Issues are encouraged to submit review papers in the area of their Special Issues as lead papers of the Special Issues. This is a quite straight-forward pathway into Q1, perhaps already next year. Note that Special Collections, Special Sections and Special Issues facilitate a structured and bundled presentation of selected key developments on dedicated topics, which amplifies the exposure of contributions to our communities to significant extent. This mechanism is beneficial for both the impact development of the contributions and the promotion of the journal. Please pay attention to the currently running Special Issues and Special Collections on emerging topics. At this occasion, I would like to thank the Guest Editors for their outstanding work on these developments and all authors who have already contributed. Let us support these developments with innovative and path-paving contributions.

Please contact the Editor or the Managing Editors by email if you have an interest to guest edit a special collection (Part A) or a special issue (Part B).

Both Part A and Part B are listed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index by Clarivate Analytics , formerly Thomson Reuters, with Part A being indexed since 2019. From 2016 onward, all articles are included in Web of Science and Scopus .

Statement on Open Access

The editorial team motivates authors to share their pre-prints and/or accepted versions of their paper via institutional or other repositories, scientific social networks or personal websites in the spirit of Open Science. Please make sure to abide by embargos and other Journal Policies, which can be found here for part A  and  here for part B .

Alt Based on the latest Journal Citation Report by Clarivate Analytics , Part A has an impact factor for 2024 of 2.7.

EARLY CAREER EDITORIAL BOARD

Starting in 2020, the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems in its two parts has implemented the  Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB)  program to bring young members onboard its editorial board under the mentorship of the journal leadership.

ECEB members typically have a net academic age of 1-3 years. The term of an ECEB member is 2 years with the possibility for renewal into a second term.

New Cycle of the ASCE Journals’ Early Career Editorial Board

The goal of the journal is to further welcome two to four ECEB members on the editorial board. Potential candidates are required to have at least six publications within the last 5 years, which may include their Ph.D. study dissertation. The submission deadline is May 31, 2025. Applications will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee from the journal leadership. Applicants will be informed about the decision by end of June 2025.
