Background

This Special Collection (SC) aims to provide a dedicated space for in-depth exploration and dissemination of advancements in vulnerability analysis, risk management, and uncertainty modeling. The primary goal of this SC is to feature emerging developments, which address hazards, risks and respective mitigation strategies towards resilience and sustainability of our infrastructure systems and the built environment. The contributions are supposed to provide key ideas, concepts and technologies to solve major challenges concerned with the high complexity and the multi-disciplinary character of the problems as well as with the comprehensive quantification, efficient processing and management of the involved uncertainties. By establishing this SC, we aim to foster a collaborative environment that encourages researchers to contribute high-quality works, sharing insights and innovations in the multifaceted fields of risk, uncertainty, and decision-making.

Topics

  • Recent significant advances in risk assessment and management of critical infrastructures
  • Performance-based and reliability-based structural optimization under uncertainty
  • Verified and stochastic approaches to modeling and simulation under uncertainty
  • Risk management for floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and other natural hazards
  • Risk and uncertainty modeling in transportation and logistics
  • Geotechnical risk, uncertainty, resilience, and decision-making
  • AI-supported approaches
  • Data-supported or data-driven methods
  • Vulnerability analysis, risk management, and uncertainty modeling under climate change

Special Issue Publication Dates

Paper submission deadline: July 31, 2024

Initial review completed: September 30, 2024

Publication date: March 31, 2025

We welcome submissions from researchers globally whose studies align with the thematic focus of this SC. We also encourage authors whose work has been presented at relevant conferences such as the 4th International Conference on Vulnerability & Risk Analysis & Management & The 8th International Symposium on Uncertainty Modelling & Analysis (ASCE-ICVRAM-ISUMA 2024) to submit significantly revised and expanded manuscripts to our SC. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the journal’s guidelines and submitted through the regular manuscript submission process. Authors are encouraged to seize this opportunity to contribute to a virtual collection that reflects the latest advancements in the field. Whether presenting at ASCE-ICVRAM-ISUMA 2024 or not, researchers with relevant expertise are invited to submit their manuscripts directly to this SC, enriching the diversity and depth of the collection. We invite the global research community to actively engage in this SC, advancing the discourse on vulnerability, risk, and uncertainty in engineering systems.

Submission Guidelines

  • Please submit your manuscript via the Journal of ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A: Civil Engineering website.
  • If you already have an Editorial Manager account, log in as author and select Submit Paper at the bottom of the page. If you do not have an account, select Submissions and follow the steps. In either case, at the Paper Submittal page, select the Journal of ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A: Civil Engineering and then select the special collection Risk and Reliability Analysis of Resilient Civil Engineering Structures with Vibration Control Devices.
  • Detailed information on the submission process is provided in the “Publishing in ASCE Journals” section of the ASCE Author Center .
  • Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for inclusion in the Special Issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.

Please note that all accepted papers submitted in response to this Call for Papers will be published in regular issues of the Journal of ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A: Civil Engineering and assembled online on a page dedicated to this Special Collection. See Journal of ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A: Civil Engineering Special Collections for the list of Special Collections already published.
