Editorial Message

Our journal is gaining expanded exposure in the international community. This exposure is related to the global links built around the ASCE Infrastructure Resilience Division (IRD) and the ASME Safety Engineering & Risk Analysis Division (SERAD). Regarding Europe, a collaboration has been established with the European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA). In Asia, ASCE’s connection to the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) is being revitalized with joint activities, and new links have been built with the International Joint Research Center for Resilient Infrastructure and the International Joint Research Center for Engineering Reliability and Stochastic Mechanics in China. The expanded collaboration is reflected in the geographical diversity of our Associate Editors and the Editorial Board. Joint activities are being materialized in upcoming Special Issues and Special Collections. Collaboration between the partners is facilitated by mutual contributions and joint activities in international conferences, out of which contributions to our journal emerge.

At this occasion I would like to encourage you to utilize this opportunity to network, to establish new collaborative links, to expand collaboration and to develop innovative contributions to the journal out of synergetic connections. The next opportunities are the ASCE INSPIRE conference 2023 on Infrastructure Innovation & Adaptation for a Sustainable & Resilient World (Arlington, VA, Nov 16-18, 2023, https://inspire.asce.org/) , and ASME’s International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition, IMECE 2023 (New Orleans, LA, Oct 29-Nov 2, 2023, https://event.asme.org/IMECE) . In Europe, under the umbrella of ESRA, the European Safety and Reliability Conference, ESREL 2023 (Southampton, UK, Sept 3-8, 2023, https://www.esrel2023.com/ ) will be a gathering of the community. In Asia, the Japan Conference on Structural Safety and Reliability, JCOSSAR 2023 (Tokyo, Japan, Oct 25-27, 2023, https://www.jcossar2023.jp/en/index-en.html ) offers interaction with JSCE and a link to the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR).

I would like to thank all colleagues who are actively engaged in this expansion and look forward to submissions on exciting developments fed to the journal in form of expanded versions of conference papers, proposals for Special Issues and Special Collections developed based on conference sessions, and independent contributions from the expanded collaborative network.
